Schaakclub Utrecht (Utrecht Chess Club) is one of the oldest chess clubs in The Netherlands.
It was founded in 1886. It has about 135 members, who play at nearly all possible levels.
The first team plays in the Dutch Mayor League.
The city of Utrecht is situated in the centre of The Netherlands and has about 10 chess clubs.
SC Utrecht is the biggest and has the strongest players, about 40 of them above 2000 ELO.
The first team became champion of The Netherlands in 1946 and 1971.
Among its members SC Utrecht had several national champions. Dr. Adolf George Olland
was undoubtedly the strongest Dutch player in the pre-Euwe era. Olland became Dutch champion
in 1909 for the first time and his supremacy lasted until 1921, when later world champion
Max Euwe became the best of The Netherlands, until 1954. In that year he was beaten
by another remarkable SC Utrecht player, Mr. Ed. Spanjaard.
Other famous members were Jhr. A.E. van Foreest, Hans Bouwmeester en Frans Cuypers.
